KIEHL'S - Africa welcomes you

on Saturday, September 15, 2012
This last week was exciting. The unique skincare range decided to open their doors for the first time in Africa. We were lucky enough that they chose Sandton City, Johannesburg, to do this.

I cracked a nod to the opening and a grand opening it was. A red carpet welcomed us to the New York themed event. The party was jam packed with clebs, journalists and fellow fashionistas. Fun was had by all.

Whilst sipping on cosmopolitans and enjoying snacks, we learnt about the history of Khiel's and
their products. The brand has been in existence for 160 years, yet has never advertised! They pride their success on the quality of their products and word of mouth. It's definitely a winning combination for them. The original 'Kiehl Pharmacy', established in 1851, is still standing and open for business. You can find it on Third Avenue and Thirteenth Street in New York's East Village. The business is truly a family business and has been passed down from generation to generation in the Kiehl and Morse families. Each member adds their own unique take on the products and in the 1970's a corner of the store was even converted into a museum with vintage motorcycles. Mr. Morse had a passion for the steel ponies.

The products are of the highest quality only sporting the finest natural ingredients. Nothing fake about these guys, all real for real people. Kiehl's believes in personalised service and this has afforded them a reputation of generosity. Customers are welcome to sample any formula they choose before making a purchase. They have a philosophy of 'try before you buy'.  The company is philanthropic and have three pillar causes - HIV/AIDS research, environmental issues and children's well being.

Personally, I am in love with the lip balm which comes in yummy flavours. No scent is added to any of their products, yet most of them smells so good, I want to eat them! Their hand cream was a favourite of Carrie's in Sex and the City and it is a gem.

I love that they are now based close to me. I am a fan and will be spotted in their store quite often.
