I survived the YDE Naked Sale

on Sunday, July 21, 2013
OMV, I was up before 07h00 on a Sunday to go on a fashion safari and by that I mean join the drones of people at the YDE Naked Sale. It happens every now and then and no one knows when it takes place. They post notifications the day before. Thanks to a friend, I was part of the hoard this morning. It was freezing and I was queuing with people who was there at 06h00 already. Crazy! As soon as the doors opened the pushing and shoving started. The first people in cleared the rails. It took about two minutes for the rails to be cleared. It's insane. I can only compare it to videos I have seen of the designer wedding dress sale in NY. People take everything off the rails, find a corner and start sorting for their sizes and what they fancy.
Women losing their minds

I was not one of the lucky few who got in first so I had to hover around asking for others' rejects. At some point I learned a bit about the barter system that was in place before currency was invented. In order to get a dress you wanted from someone, it was expected that you trade it for something they wanted. Some women would go around taking all different sizes in order to have currency to get what they wanted. Can I just say that women get seriously scary when it comes to a good sale and fashion. Everything was marked down to R99. I got six amazing pieces that would have cost me over R3000. I do not regret heading into the war zone. Shopping is my cardio and this was definitely the marathon that I've been training for. Most people bought bags and bags of things. I got fed up, tired and hungry at some point and decided to head for the cashiers. The queue was ridiculous! I stood for an hour and a half to pay.
The queue to pay

My feet got sore (thank goodness I wore flats), my phone's battery died and I was hungry, but there was no way that I was leaving without my gorgeous loot! The weirdest thing was how people would try things on where they were standing, over their clothes. There was no time for fitting rooms. As I was queuing to pay, people were still fitting and swapping. I scored another great dress that way. It is definitely a team sport and next time I am rounding up the cheerleaders.
The empty rails

I got home and poured myself a glass of bubbly, I may have PTSD after my experience. I got a clip on YouTube that shows what goes on at this sale, but I swear today's was worse. Enjoy. Have a fabulous week all.

My impulse buy

on Wednesday, July 17, 2013
I had one of those shopping days where I did more window shopping than anything else, going from one shop to the other. I bought very few things as so little tickled my fancy, but this pair of shoes definitely did.

The modern take on the Mary Jane, the platform Mary Jane. How can you not love this? It's classic, iconic and adds a touch of old school glam. Truly an impulse buy from Mr Price but it has become one of my favourite pairs of shoes this winter and not to mention that the price was a steal. Bonus! A girl always likes a good price. I like to wear it with a dress or skirt and black opaque tights and I feel super sexy. And we all know that when we feel good, we look good.
